Part-worn tyre safety checks
Part-worn tyres must meet UK supply rules; being used does not remove the need for inspection. Before fitting, check:
- Tread: the original tread grooves must be at least 2 mm deep across the full breadth of the tread and around the whole circumference when supplied as part-worn. This is a supply requirement, not a promise of remaining life. For cars and light vans on the road, the Highway Code states a separate minimum of 1.6 mm across the central three-quarters and around the entire circumference.
- Markings: non-retreaded part-worn tyres must carry the relevant approval marking, load and speed markings, and a permanent, legible “PART-WORN” mark beside the approval mark.
- Condition: no exposed cords, structural bulges or tears; the casing, inside and outside, should be checked for damage and any previous repair assessed for compliance.
- Your vehicle: the size, load and speed ratings must meet its requirements. Ask about tyre age, prior repairs, measured tread and the fitted price before agreeing to buy.

Part-worn tyres: common questions
Can I see sizes or prices online?
Not at the moment. Stock, tread depth and price vary from tyre to tyre. Call 0121 389 4396 for current options and a quote.
Is a part-worn tyre right for my car?
It depends on your vehicle’s approved specification, the tyre’s condition and remaining tread. We’ll check suitability before fitting; a matching size alone is not enough.
Can a previously repaired tyre be sold part-worn?
Only if the repair and markings meet applicable requirements and the tyre passes inspection. If you have a puncture in your existing tyre, see how we assess tyre repairs.
Prefer a new tyre? Explore new tyres available by phone. Online new-tyre ordering is under maintenance.
