How to Check Tyre Pressure

Correct pressure supports safe handling, even wear and fuel efficiency. Check all tyres, including the spare where fitted.

Find the correct figure

Use the vehicle manufacturer’s pressure label or handbook, not the maximum pressure moulded into the tyre sidewall. Front and rear pressures may differ.

Check tyres cold

Measure before driving or after the vehicle has been parked long enough to cool. Remove the valve cap, attach an accurate gauge and adjust to the recommended pressure.

When to check

Check at least monthly, before long journeys and when carrying unusual loads. Refit valve caps and investigate repeated pressure loss.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use a different pressure for a full load?

Many vehicles specify a higher loaded pressure. Use the manufacturer’s label or handbook for the correct figures.
